Some bishops went so far as to bring gladiators with them to Church councils to slaughter their opponents.The official Church executed far more “heretics” than the Romans ever killed Christians.

The early history of the Church is incredibly violent and ugly, something glossed over in most histories given that the victors tend to control information.
