If I'm not mistaken, you're from the UK. I don't know what your experiences with the police are there, but in the United States their word is not to be taken as containing truth. Police here lie at the drop of a pin, besides being almost uniformly violent to the point of senseless brutality.

When you add queer people to the mix, realizing that cops are very conservative and usually Trump supporters, you're at a point where you can't believe anything a cop says.
