Ian and Dima go to Mykonos! Chapter alert:

‘Moon over Berlin, Sun over Santorini” is getting much closer to Santorini. With Peltsin in hot pursuit, Ian and Dima grab a ferry to Mykonos, with its hot sun, hot guys, garlicky yoghurt, and questionable wine. Dima feels free to open up his mind and question his bond with Ian — to name it to himself.

Author’s notes:

My own first ferry trip to Mykonos was eye opening and mind opening. Lying on the deck among hundreds of mostly shirtless, hot young guys, I spotted a gay couple quite obviously in love. One of them casually stroked his dozing lover’s naked shoulder while gazing at him adoringly. I’d never seen open affection like that between gay men in a public, mostly straight space. In 1985, I’d never imagined it possible. I gave the guy a discrete thumbs up, and he jerked his hand away. The incident seared itself into my memory, and now finds its way into my novel.

Oh, keep paying attention to the animal metaphors. They all add up to something. Llamas, goats, squid, poodles, etc… Poodles? Wait for the next chapter!

This isn’t Mykonos, by the way, but the Pegasus line stops there, and it was the first ferry line I ever took.
