I wrote an article about this a few years ago when my niece went on a several-week mission trip to western Africa, particularly to two countries where American missionaries have been fueling homophobic flames and encouraging lawmakers to punish LGBTQ people with long prison sentences.

Short-term or long-term, American missionaries are in the business of trying to export hateful values they can't even impose here in the United States.

Then they come home and bask in the praise of fellow Christians. It's kind of sickening, really.
