I wrote about this not long ago from my perspective as a gay atheist who likes Christmas.

When I heard about the controversy over the queer nutcracker and Black disabled Santa, I went to look at them on Target's website, and then I bought them because I wanted them for my holiday decorations this year.

I rather imagine that was the whole point of Target offering them for sale. People like me, people who like the ornaments, would buy them. People who were looking for other themes of decorations would buy other decorations.

And conservatives want to boycott Target because I get to buy decorations I like?

Seriously, wtf is up with that?

I'll tell you what's up. It's conservatives announcing loud and clear that queer people, disabled people, and Black people don't truly belong — that we should sit down and shut up, that the privileged elite shouldn't even have to see us represented when they do their holiday shopping.

They say they're dedicated Christians who love Christmas, but it seems to me that they're behaving nothing at all like Christ, and they're not behaving with anything like the Christmas spirit.
