I wrote about this myself the other day because Holland’s speech was very disturbing. Most subtly disturbing perhaps was his attempt to sound nice as he acknowledged the “struggles” of gay Mormons even while insisting there must be no acceptance of them as morally equal human beings.
His decision to personally castigate Matt Easton, a young man who came out as gay in his faculty-approved BYU valedictory address in 2019, shined a harsh spotlight on how vindictive and cruel senior Mormon leadership is determined to be with respect to LGBTQ people.
Holland’s musket-fire comment has apparently already made an impression on campus, where a student was just filmed scrubbing a chalked rainbow flag off a sidewalk while yelling “faggot” at objecting passers-by.
Looks like Holland is getting the musket fire he asked for.
