I wrote about this myself a couple days ago and went on a nationally syndicated radio show yesterday to talk about how the law is having exactly the effect its co-sponsors said they wanted it to have.
Throughout the legislative process, I've been disappointed by mainstream reporting about the law. Some great journalism got done, but most reporters defaulted in their ledes to writing that the law would ban instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity in K-3 classrooms. Often, they barely expanded on that.
Polls have consistently shown a majority of Americans supporting the law, but because they misunderstood what it would do. Republicans did a great job misrepresenting the purpose and the intended effect.
And now, as I said on the air yesterday, we're seeing policies being written in response that, honest to God, look like something out of a dystopian novel.
