I wrote about this incident myself, because it made national headlines, and because even as a non-Mormon, I found that elder’s comments to be just so vicious, cruel, and horrifying.

I was blown away by the open hate he spewed. I wished I could meet him and tell him exactly what a depraved, disgusting human being he is. I mean, that somebody would go out of their way to be so vicious astounds me. I don’t understand the depth of human depravity that fills men like him.

To hear you say that he has been inspirational and decent in other ways surprises me. I mean, I’m sure that’s true. It’s just hard to understand that someone filled with that much hatred of marginalized, persecuted people could be decent.

I suppose I’ll never understand the capacity that some human beings have to be so horrible and awful.
