I would LOVE to never see Facebook or Twitter again, or at least that's what I tell myself. I really only started using social media heavily to promote my writing. Most days, that's all I use it for.

But by the numbers, most of my readership these days comes from my column in the Los Angeles Blade, which I do not have to promote. Which is ... amazing beyond words, and which makes me feel I could live the dream and ditch most social media.

But I wonder ...

Having a finger on the pulse of popular opinion, even if the pulse-rate reading isn't entirely accurate, has shaped me and my writing in such profound ways that I'm not sure I should quit.

Like it or not, social media is a driving force in discourse. So much so, that I'd almost feel like I was wearing a blindfold if I didn't stay plugged in.

Of course, it might be that I'm wearing a blindfold because of staying plugged in.

Arg, it's hard to know.
