I wish some of them would publicly rebel in a forceful exercise of their own moral consciences. Sadly, I have almost no hope they will set public moral examples. Catholics priests, as a class, are exceptionally apt to follow orders rather than to do the right thing. “Obedience” to Church superiors is a “virtue” Catholic clergy and members of religious orders (nuns and monks) are taught from the beginning of their formation, and the Church severely punishes deviation from obedience. This is just one reason why the Church as an institution (rather than as a body of lay people) is so evil and depraved so often.
