I wish people wouldn’t jump to that kind of conclusion. Anti-gay and other anti-LGBTQ bigotry is not primarily driven by closet cases. Yes, bigoted closet cases do come to light from time to time and it’s potentially fun to ridicule them. But they are the exception. Whole denominations of Christianity and vast numbers of Christians do not condemn LGBTQ people out of self-loathing. That just isn’t how this works. When we claim otherwise, we divert attention from the real problems.
