I was really shocked when I read the first reports about what was going on at Stanford. It seems a no brainer that frontline workers like medical residents must be prioritized over professors and department heads working mostly from home.

I guess it’s not so shocking the algorithm was poorly designed, that was you point out it should not have been.

What was really shocking was that frontline medical workers had to raise a stink to get the problem fixed.

Stanford’s first response was not to say, “Hey, this algorithm is broken so let’s get rid of it.”

That didn’t happen until angry healthcare workers deprived of the vaccine went to the press.

So I guess it’s worth noting here that somebody at Stanford, and probably several somebodies, exercised extremely poor moral and human judgment even after knowing something was wrong with their technology.

If anyone has been held to account for that, I’ve yet to hear about it. Somebody needs to lose their job.
