I was listening to am talk radio the other day. (Yeah, I know stupid of me but nothing else would tune in way out in the country.) A woman who claimed to be a literature teacher at an elite high school in Manhattan called in to complain about Critical Race Theory. She was super angry she had to diversify her curriculum by including well-known Black authors. She said plenty of parents were upset too, but the teachers at the school were afraid to complain to administrators.

Somehow, all of this got labeled Marxist by the host and by other callers. It’s gobsmacking, isn’t it? What on Earth does Marxism have to do with diversifying the literature children read?

I don’t think people have much more idea about what Marxism is than they do about what Critical Race Theory is.

And that’s another thing about the call, the teacher kept complaining about Critical Race Theory being forced into her school, but that’s not what was happening. Administrators simply told her she had to teach Langston Hughes and Toni Morrison. That’s it that’s all. That’s not Critical Race Theory. And Marxism has got nothing to do with any of it.
