I was in the kitchen getting dinner started when an alert came on my phone saying the verdict was about to be released. I almost never turn my television on, but I rushed into the living room and got CNN going as fast as I could.

Would we continue to live in a democracy, or in a nation of rule by strongman?

Of course I was happy about the verdict, but the reaction of the Speaker of the House is beyond scary. He's already demanding that Trump's conviction be overturned, and he's saying he's sure his "friends" on the Supreme Court we'll make that happen.

And the rest of the Republican establishment is running around demanding that Trump be immune for the legal consequences of his criminal behavior.

Scary stuff! Especially given that some Supreme Court justices are clearly corrupt.
