I was going to mention that if you didn't, because I played D&D as a teenager. My friends and I started with war gaming, then we moved to D&D shortly after people first started playing it.

What did we love about it? It was clearly designed to let us roleplay in JRR Tolkien's fantasy universe! What nerd could resist that? Not I!

What's weird about that? Christians then and now praise Tolkien's books as Christian metaphor. I don't agree with them, though I certainly see how Tolkien's Christianity infused itself into his writing. How not?

My point is, we get the same conservative Christians praising Tolkien's work as explicitly Christian, then calling role-playing games based on his work literally demonic.

It just goes to show how truly bizarre and unhinged conservative Christians can be.
