I was a landed immigrant in Canada once, a happy resident of Montreal. Besides learning french, I learned that American exceptionalism doesn’t make a lot of sense.

I ask myself why that boy smuggled himself into the United States when he was already in Canada.

Of course that only makes me ask why I left Montreal.

All I can say is that I am a US citizen, son of an Irish family who came here in the late 19th century.

I guess staying and working to make things better is important. But I sure do miss Montreal.
