I walked quite a different path, certain that I would never be a father, that I had no desire to do so. Then overnight, everything changed. My partner and I discovered ourselves in a position where we could make a difference for a child in need, and we said yes, not really understanding everything that would ensue.

Neither of us wanted to be dads at that time, But because we answered the call, we were, as they say, surprised by joy.

I don't think our experience is a "necessary" one, and I don't think becoming a parent is necessary for fulfillment or happiness.

I do think that life is full of surprises, and being open to them is wonderful.
