I tweeted about this when the leaks first happened, and I was a little bit surprised about an apathetic response. This story is as shocking and outrageous as any in recent years, but sadly, people just aren’t getting outraged about it. I have a hard time understanding that.
Speaking of why people have a hard time believing the state police, it’s worth noting that not a single state police officer or official who deliberately lied to the family and the public has been fired or suffered any criminal penalty.
Cops ought to be losing their jobs and going to prison over this. But they aren’t. So of course we don’t believe in Louisiana State Police. They are protecting their own just like cops all over the United States do all the time in circumstances like this.
There is no justice. There is absolutely no justice. Cops routinely get away with racist brutality up to the level of murder and face no consequences most of the time. Then when they lie about it, nothing happens.
I can’t understand why more of us are not so outraged that we are taking to the streets to demand immediate radical reform.
Cops are out of control and something has to happen to stop them.
