I too wish federal law enforcement were much more present and obvious about protecting LGBTQ people from extremists. I'm certainly grateful that a federal task force quickly identified the arsonist in Ohio. That's definitely something to celebrate.
But cops, even federal cops, tend to come from the most conservative elements of society. So cops in general, including federal agents, are disproportionately likely to be homophobic bigots.
Theoretically, that should not matter since agents are supposed to set aside their personal beliefs and just do their jobs.
But of course it does matter on the ground where it counts.
I don't know what the answer is to America's conservative cop problem. I wish I did.
