I thought Megan Thee Stallion looked gorgeous in those two covers, but then I’m a white gay man, so what do I know?

I do know that it doesn’t seem fair that women, including Black women, feel pressured to alter their faces with cosmetics. I remember my little sister when she was 16 years old being horrified to even step out of the house without spending 30 minutes on her makeup first.

She was gorgeous. She didn’t need makeup to look beautiful, not in my opinion even if I was biased by being her brother.

I on the other hand could run out of the house in basketball shorts and a t-shirt after barely running a comb through my hair, and everybody would think I looked just fine.

When we got dressed up fancy to go to church, I needed about 10 minutes to put on my Sunday best. My sister needed an hour at least.

More power to Megan for bucking trends, if that’s what she’s doing. She’s a beautiful woman and shouldn’t have to meet anybody’s fashion strictures for how to display her beauty to the world.
