I think you’re missing a tremendous opportunity by not telling them why you refuse to be complicit with bigotry.

Evil homophobes like the pastor and his wife must know that decent people revile them. They must know why they are being shunned. They must feel shame for their disgusting positions and beliefs.

People who hold religious beliefs condemning LGBTQ people are evil. They are every bit as disgusting and evil as racists — who also historically justified their evil with religion.

You must not let this church slide. Writing this article on Medium is one thing, and it’s a good thing. But directly letting the church know you will not knowingly associate with homophobic bigots is a much more important thing.

That’s where your power lies; that’s how you can fight for us.
