I think you lay out a very likely potential future. Just look at Iowa. The legislature just passed and the governor is going to sign a 6-week abortion ban. Close to 70% of Iowans believe abortion should be legal most or all of the time. The percentage of Iowa women who believe that is much higher.
I don't know what Iowa Republicans are thinking. With numbers like that, how do they expect to do well at the polls next election? I don't get it. I think they're in such disarray that they don't get it either.
As far as the presidential race goes, nobody who can win the Republican nomination would stand a chance in a general election. Of course, that's an eternity away in political terms, and many things could change.
But I do have hope that you're right!
