I think what might be happening here is that Evangelical “pro-life” activists and Catholic “pro-life” activists are getting their wires crossed.
The Catholic version of the “let’s control women’s bodies because they aren’t competent to make their own decisions” movement strongly opposes all forms of artificial contraception and abortion. Cases have gone all the way to the Supreme Court about Catholic institutions that don’t want their employees to have health care plans that pay for contraception.
The Evangelical version of the movement is okay with contraception but opposes abortion.
There is a lot of cross pollination and cross talking points between the two factions. In some cases, activist organizations are staffed by Evangelical and Catholic activists at the same time.
It’s no wonder they get their messages crossed, especially when someone as ignorant as the subject of your article gets involved.
