I think of my generation's relationship with family photos. They used to be relatively rare and proportionately special. When I managed the other day to dig up two pre-digital photos of a much younger me, then send them to you, it was an event. Today, we take for granted that our lives are memorialized in digital form, and we drown in the minutia. I understand that true ecological curation is not possible, but I do regret the loss a bit, even while regretting the loss of those parts of my past that I was not prescient enough to save in images.
