I think members of minorities would tell you that some things have always been like this. I think trans people would tell you that blatant public nastiness is on the rise right now. Bashing trans people, physically or otherwise, is fashionable in conservative circles at the moment. That woman in the casino was merely echoing what she probably hears from others every day.
