I think it was Robert Heinlein who had one of his characters say that writing fiction is the most fun a person can have out of bed.

In the sense of spending time in another world with one’s characters, I have to agree. Writing fiction is so cool it’s hard to even explain. Closing your eyes and seeing, smelling, tasting, touching. Getting it into words.

That last bit is the hard part, of course.

But without enjoying it, without loving it, would anyone ever put in the work?

I can’t see it happening.
