I think it was about 20 years ago when I first go into current understandings of what North America looked like before European contact.

I was stunned to discover how huge indigenous populations were, how advanced some of the societies were, and just how much Europeans destroyed when they arrived.

I grew up learning something altogether different and altogether wrong.
