I "swear" all the time, although I do try to watch my mouth around conservative Christians, because of the weird way they've conflated words about sex and excretory functions into biblical prohibitions against swearing oaths. Weird. But then so many Christian beliefs are weird.
Anyhoo... You might be amused to know that the process of normalizing a word like "fuck" has progressed so far in the French language that even many native speakers barely remember that a common expletive ("foutre" and its derivatives) means sexual penetration.
Today, the word is pretty much only used as an intensifier, but it's used so often that it packs about the same emotional punch as "gosh" or "darn." Educated francophones often know its derivation, but many French speakers have totally forgotten.
You can't even use the word in its original meaning anymore. It's lost that denotation except in certain fixed, archaic expressions.
Will we reach that point with "fuck" one day?
It'd be fuckin' nice, eh?
