I suspect the Vatican would actually be on board with the spirit of this letter. Or , certain parts of the Vatican would be, in any case. American bishops, sadly, tend to be a lot more conservative, or traditionalist, or however you'd describe rationalizing the unjust and unkind treatment dished out to Dom.
