I suppose the popularity of horror novels and true crime writing attests to a fascination with pain. I’ve always wondered about that. I don’t enjoy either genre very much, with some noteworthy exceptions like Truman Capote’s “In Cold Blood” and some of Stephen King’s novels.

I wonder what the fascination is?
