I started getting a lot of weird "wrong number" messages via WhatsApp and SMS a few weeks ago. At first I presumed they really were wrong numbers. Then I noticed that whoever was at the other end would try to prolong the conversation even though I told them I wasn't who they thought I was.

As soon as they started doing that, I would block the number, figuring it was some kind of scam.

I thought about playing along once or twice to see what was really happening, but I never did. I'm glad you did and reported the results!

Now at least I have some idea what these wrong number messages are all about.
