I see this sort of hypocrisy from Facebook constantly. Is a writer who focuses on LGBTQ issues, I promote on Facebook a lot of articles about queer quality and intersectionality. (Meaning like, how black trans women get it with both barrels sometimes.)
It's amazing how fast Facebook is the suppress conversations about things like that, but how slow they are to apply their standards to actual hate speech.
I'm thinking about a Lebanese lesbian popstar who died at her own hands in Canada. The Lebanese queer community and queer people of the world mourned her untimely death.
But a group of many thousands hijacked Facebook memorial sites for her, quoting passages from the Quran that queer people deserve to die. Often, they urged us queer people to kill ourselves for the betterment of the world, and to please God.
So many people reported this comments, and Facebook took no action, not even after a concerted campaign to ask them to take action.
The people who run Facebook are morally despicable.
And their community standards certainly do not mean what they seem to mean on their face. I have years of experience to see how that works.
