I see a lot of gallows humor on Facebook, Devon, where volunteer as a administrator for some LGBTQ groups. I feel a lot of that internalization, and I recognize a sort of fierce resistance. I see plenty of plain self loathing too, the kind that doesn’t even seek the cloak of comedy to cover itself up. It’s really sad.

But talking about it and getting it out in the open has to help, and that’s one of the reasons I spend time helping out with the FB groups.

On the plus side, I see a lot of teens growing up queer who really have wonderful experiences. They’re just so out and so natural about it without any sort of deliberate political consciousness. We’ll get there one day.
