I saw that too, and I had to dig a lot deeper to find out that what CNN was (probably) obliquely referring to was a statement the shooter (probably) made over a year ago on Discord when he made a threat to shoot up a school. (The FBI investigated that threat and could not prove the shooter made the threat. He claimed his Discord account had been hacked. Now that he actually has shot up at school, that denial seems more than highly unlikely.)

In that Discord post in which he threatened to shoot up a school, he claimed school shooters are likely to be trans (the opposite is actually true), but he did so in a way ay that seemed to indicate his intense disrespect and dislike of trans people.

I don't know why CNN chose to be so vague. It would have been easy for them just to report the facts.

I wish they had.

Either way, this kid was not motivated to shoot up a school because of trans issues. He's been obsessing over school shootings, not trans people, for a good couple years.

But I'm not at all surprised to see figures in the right trying to stir up more hatred of trans people.
