I run into this strange critique constantly when I write about LGBTQ issues:
“Don’t you know that in some parts of the world they throw gay people off roofs? So why are you complaining about a Christian organization firing gay people for being gay? Go do something about the roof throwers instead!”
Of course this is just deflection. People who don’t like to admit real problems exist, for whatever ideological reasons, often try to point to a bigger problem they say should be the focus instead.
But if everyone thought like that, nothing would ever get done, would it?
