I remember that Reagan poster so well, Dave. I also remember the Cold War attitudes!

I learned Russian during the end of the Cold War and worked as an Air Force intelligence officer for a few years. It’s funny how my own experiences with the culture, even as a military man, softened my ideas about the Communist threat.

I was able to see Russian people as ordinary, because I was able to put myself in their shoes by experiencing them as people rather than ideological threats.

I’m glad you guys are doing well in Vietnam. It sounds like a pretty good place for you right now. Isolated in rural Michigan with very few neighbors, I’m also riding things out with my family in relative ease.

Yet just three hours to the south, Detroit is having a terrible time.

Here’s hoping we all get through this as best we can.
