I remember my mom and dad arguing about this when I was a little boy. He was a newly ordained Baptist minister, and had such a strong faith that he fell a little bit under the influence of faith healing preachers. He very briefly flirted with the idea of avoiding mainstream medicine in favor of prayer. My mother very briefly flirted with the idea of beating the hell out of him. 🤣
I remember her very strongly arguing that if one of her kids got sick or worse because my dad wouldn't take advantage of medications and treatment God made available through the doctors he created, there would be hell to pay.
Dad never brought it up again. In fact, he began to preach that prayer and faith were critical, but only in conjunction with modern medicine that God had made possible.
That remained the mainstream Evangelical view as far as I know until covid. Why everybody is screaming again about rejecting modern medicine is beyond me.
