I really feel for this counselor, who was probably forced to send the notes telling parents they could opt out. I feel for the students in the school who learned from those notes that caring, sharing and diversity are controversial and scary subjects.

But I mostly feel for the Black kids in that school, who learned to feel degraded and diminished.
