I read the article you linked to, and several other very similar ones, yesterday when I saw a collection of links in a Christianity Today article.
The impetus for the articles is absolutely stunning. It's also scary.
A very conservative Christian media host responded to a grandmother that she should go to her transgender grandchild's wedding and bring a gift. He explained that he does not approve of such weddings, and that she should not either, and that she should make that clear to her grandchild.
But, he advised, she should go to demonstrate her love, and with the hope that her love could open up her grandchild to the possibility of being evangelized in the future.
The American Family Association canceled his show for that reason.
They canceled him for not being homophobic ENOUGH. They canceled him because he's not on board with making queer people pariahs. He's not on board with family rejection.
This guy is crystal clear in morally condemning us, by the way. I took a few minutes to read past articles by him in which he calls us some pretty terrible names. He urges that some of our basic civil rights (like the right to assembly and the right to privacy) be restricted.
But that's not homophobic ENOUGH for the American Family Association.
They canceled his show for modeling at least some of Jesus's compassion and grace. The sad thing is that the American Family Association is sitting right where the bulk of conservative American Christians are sitting right now.
And that's what's scary, how badly they want to mistreat us.
