I rarely read romance novels, but a few years back I got addicted to a series by a gay writer. While each book was formulaic, what set them apart is that his dialogue was really good, and his characters spent lots of time talking to each others in ways that felt authentic, that drew me in.

It's probably tough for romance writers to get it right, and of course "right" varies by reader. Thanks for your recommendation!
