I probably don't even have room to comment here, because I'm autistic and don't "get" jokes most of the time. I've never been able to wrap my mind around "roast" humor and analyze the details of when making fun of somebody is funny and when it's just cruel.

But ever since last night I've been thinking about why some of the same people cheering Will Smith for defending his wife were fine with Dave Chappelle's jokes at the expense of trans people.

It does not compute, at least not to this autistic outsider who can't figure out the rules of insult humor.
