I pray you are right. The times feel very dark, and the Republican Party seems very skilled at leveraging and maintaining minority rule. Justice Kavanaugh’s opinion that effectively allows unchecked voter suppression is more than a little frightening.

Of course you make a very important point about the inclusive ideas that so very many Americans stand for. Like you, I doubt those ideas are going to change. But what will be the cost of struggling against the opposition of a minority that wants to turn back to more exclusionary times?

As a gay man who has fought for equality all my life, the potential cost haunts me.

I hope we are all as on point as we need to be about safeguarding our way of life.
