I love walking through the forest and spotting morel mushrooms in the spring. Well, gathering, cooking and eating morel mushrooms in the spring.

I’m not afraid of doing that because morels are distinctive and their only close lookalike might give you a bellyache but won’t kill you.

I’d like to start harvesting chanterelles and oyster mushrooms, but I’m afraid of making a mistake, which knowing me would definitely happen.

I can just see myself arriving at the ER with a sample mushroom in my hand, and the doctor takes one look at it and says, “You ate that!?” while rolling his eyes and shouting prophylactically for a crash cart.

Oh, wait. You were writing about looking at backyard mushrooms not eating them.

See how dangerous I am?
