I love the idea of the conference, but I'm puzzled by the decision to hold it in Florida. Normally, organizations agree to divest as much as possible from states that enforce abusive practices against minorities. In fact, threatening to not sponsor/attend events in particular states has sometimes been effective in pressuring for change.
LGBTQ advocacy groups have been urging people not to travel to Florida, hoping that a dip in tourism revenue could be significant enough to give Florida leaders pause.
I'm sure this has caused Disney executives some concern too. Is this conference part of a response to those concerns? Is this Disney telling people that it's OK to travel to Florida after all?
I mean, why not just hold the conference at Disney HQ in California and talk about Florida policies from there, letting Florida leaders see how much business they're missing out on?
