I love how you evoke so much from one simple painting.

Interestingly, I once read a gay historical romance illustrated with that very painting. It was set in England and just across the channel in France, during the mid 20th century when homosexuality was criminalized in the UK.

The author wrote a scene set on an isolated French beach on which three young English men felt free to be themselves.

I'm glad to see the painting now illustrating a story closer to the painter's home!
