I live in Trump country too, in rural northern Michigan. Not only do many people not wear masks, they’re pugnacious about it. They’re proud of it.

And they look down on and mock people who do wear masks.

The irony? While we avoided much of the early pandemic, our county is taking a big hit now, mostly because a medium-sized university in the county seat let students come back to campus in September.

Infection rates and death rates are soaring, and not at all limited to campus.

And people still won’t wear masks.
