I learned this in church over and over again as a child. Sometimes people would question God's actions, wondering how they could possibly be considered moral, loving, or just.

The answer always boiled down to the same thing: God created you, so you don't have the right to question his actions. As his creatures, we are all subject to his power and authority. It's okay to discuss how God's seemingly cruel actions were actually loving in the end, but we must never presume that his actions are wrong.

Paraphrasing: Right makes might. He made you, he's powerful enough to destroy you. So, suck it up.

Seems to me that attitude is largely responsible for why I rejected Christianity.

Part of what egged me on was how much pleasure some Christians seem to take in the cruelty of their god, and in emulating the authoritarianism implicit in their theologies.

Even if it were true, I'd still refuse to bow down.

But of course it isn't true.
