I know this is a humor piece I shouldn't interrupt it with seriousness and all that, but Google "cousin marriage" sometime and look into what scientists say about it. Two myths in particular stand out:
1. First-cousin marriage is not particularly genetically detrimental as long as it's not engaged in routinely over many generations. Even then (see the Habsburg and Windsor royal families) the disadvantages are slight.
2. People in the insular rural communities such as West Virginia and Oklahoma are less statistically likely to marry cousins than people in urban areas. In Western culture, first cousin marriage has long been an entrenched practice among the elite, and rarely among "hillbillies." (Again, see the Habsburg and Windsor royal families. 🤣)
