I know! And what really strikes me is that so many people are essentially unaware of how entrenched institutional homophobia is. When I publish stories about people discriminated against in employment or housing (legally) for being LGBT, I always get a ton of comments saying those people should sue because “discrimination is against the law.”

When I point out that in most of the US it is not in fact against the law, I get people who won’t believe me.
