I know a lot of young queer women who 20 or 30 years ago might have identified as butch lesbians , but who today wear different labels. Some might call themselves gender fluid pansexuals, others might might prefer non-binary, etc. I’m not trying to suggest that sexual orientation and gender identity are the same thing (not at all), just observing that many young women today who prefer a more traditionally masculine presentation might not do it in the same way we’re familiar with.
